Setting the Stage for Future Musicians

NAFA’s Junior Music Department was set up to discover young talents and nurture them to become the future musicians of Singapore.

Professional training is provided for piano, violin, cello, flute and Chinese instruments. This has benefited hundreds of young musicians to date and of these, 100 percent achieved a distinction in the ABRSM examinations. Students and alumni alike have won over 600 prizes across national and international competitions and regularly go on to concert tours and audition for world-renowned music institutions.

Global Exposure from the Comforts of Home

The Junior Music Department adopts a similar pedagogy to renowned overseas music colleges, but tailors the curriculum to fit our unique Southeast Asian culture.

Internal and International Examinations, and National and International Competitions for Continued Progress

Students are required to sit for internal and external examinations conducted to monitor their progress. Grade 8 and diploma students learning piano, violin, cello and flute can take the ABRSM and Trinity exams, while students learning Chinese instruments sit for external Graded Examinations for Chinese Instruments, jointly conducted by NAFA and the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music. Students are also given the opportunity to enter national and international competitions as NAFA SYT’s representatives to expand their potential in musicianship and exposure and upgrade their performing standards.

All Rounded Theory and Practice

Each semester, students will have a variation of theory, aural, music appreciation classes as well as individual practical lessons and studio classes. There are also two masterclasses to give them stage experience and build their confidence in performing.
