Watercolour Demystified – Mastering Watercolour Control

(8 sessions X 3 hours)

This course is suitable for beginners as well as those who have had some experience with watercolour painting, to understand how to control water in watercolour painting and learn to progress independently. Also recommended for hobbyists, crafters, makers, entrepreneurs, professionals, homemakers, retirees.

Through lectures and exercises, learners will understand how materials impact painting decisions and outcomes, learn how to apply techniques systematically and creatively on a variety of subjects. Topics to be covered include basic watercolour techniques such as: wet on wet, wet on dry, negative painting, layering, lifting, reserving white, blending, and brush control.

At the end of this course, learners will be able to:
  • Paint with watercolours purposefully and confidently.
  • Apply a wide repertoire of watercolour techniques on a variety of subjects.
  • Troubleshoot and progress independently with applied practice.

A digital certificate will be issued upon successful course completion, which requires a minimum attendance rate of 75%.

Our Trainers

 

Leach Heng

Li Ching (Leach) is an artist who works with watercolours and ink, as well as mixed media such as gouache, acrylics and clay. She has exhibited in Singapore, Japan and Korea. Her experience as a professional Gemologist has translated her works into a fluid and refined watercolour style, full of light and colour. She draws aesthetic influences from fairytales, old picture books, nature and tutelage under local Chinese Ink master, Nai Swee Leng and Japanese master potter, Yamaguchi Saya.

As a Book Illustrator, Li Ching was featured at the Asian Festival of Children’s Content in 2018, 2019 and 2023. Her first book, “Jade’s Quest For Her Heritage” was published with endorsement from the National Heritage Board and the SG Bicentennial. She has since illustrated three other books - “I Wish I Had A Dog”, “To Let The Light In” and “Where Shall I Sleep Tonight?”, which was shortlisted for Best Picture Book by the Singapore Book Publishers Association in 2023.

Li Ching is passionate about teaching and enjoys event work. Her private clients include the National Gallery of Singapore, the National University of Singapore, the National Library Board, Six Senses Resorts, Overjoyed, Rolex, Hendricks Gin, Franck Muller, Cartier, Maserati, The Singapore Botanic Gardens, The Botanical Art Society of Singapore etc. She volunteers regularly for schools and non-profit organizations. Li Ching has also been a Brand Ambassador for German paint makers, Schmincke since 2020.
