Introduction to Caring for Your Collections

(4 sessions X 3 hours)

This introductory course empowers collectors, artists, gallery and museum personnel, institutions with collections, and even artists in practice to become stewards of their treasured collections. Learn to understand and recognize factors and environments that undermine the safety and preservation of a collection and the mitigation measures that can be taken. Whether you're a seasoned collector or just starting out, this course equips you with the practical skills of proper handling of artworks and foundational knowledge to safeguard your collection.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this workshop, learners will be able to:
  • Understand and recognise the environmental factors and agents of deterioration.
  • Practice proper handling techniques for your collections, minimizing the risk of damage during transportation or display.
  • Implement best practices for housing and storage solutions that promote long-term preservation.
  • Gain knowledge and appreciation in preservation care.

Our Trainers

 
Ong Fang Zheng

Fang Zheng is a professional and certified conservator trained at the West Dean College (United Kingdom) and the National Tainan University of the Arts (Taiwan) in the Conservation of Books and Library Materials and holds a master’s degree in the Conservation of Cultural Relics. She has interned and worked in institutions such as the National Palace Museum (Taipei), Museum of Fine Arts Boston (USA), Israel Museum Jerusalem (Israel), Heritage Conservation Centre (Singapore), and the National Archives of Singapore.

She is an active learner, presenting and participating in international conferences and symposiums, and has given public and private talks in Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, and the United States of America. She is both a member and the Secretary of the Talent and Participation Committee in the International Institute for Conservation of Artistic and Historic Works (IIC), charged with the responsibility to identify, attract, and increase talents while ensuring diversity and inclusivity in her professional field. She is also actively engaged in the local arts scene both as a preservation care specialist and as a practitioner, being a Council Member of the Siaw-Tao Seal Carving, Calligraphy and Painting Society.

王芳政

王芳政修复师就读英国和台湾的修复课程,荣获古物修护硕士学位,曾实习和任职在多个单位和机构,如台北国立故宫博物院、波斯顿美术馆、以色列博物馆、文物修复中心、和新加坡国家档案馆。为提高社会对保存的认知,芳政乐于分享修复与保存知识;在新加坡、美国、台湾和印尼分分给过讲座。不仅如此,她也不忘参与国际研讨会和工作坊,积极于自我提升和专业交流。她是国际修复组织机构 IIC的委员会之一,也活跃于本地文艺圈里。专业领域为西方书纸和东方书画修复,曾参与各项名画名师修复专案,累积宝贵的经验与技术。
