Expressive Art as Therapy (Level 1)

(8 sessions x 3 hours)

This course aims to introduce expressive art and positive psychology as a form of art therapy for self-awareness and personal reflection to acquire inner strength for mental health. The course is suitable for anyone with or without an art background seeking to learn relaxation, rejuvenation, and recharge techniques.

Through lectures and exercises, learners will explore the concept and practice art as therapy for creative expression with themes such as resilience, peace, flexibility, positivity, circle of life, etc. Explore different levels of emotions such as anger, stress, anxiety, fear, depression, grief, etc. and how to manage them for health.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this course, learners will be able to:
  1. Embark on a self-discovery journey and personal reflection through art.
  2. Engage in visual art journaling for personal wellness.
  3. Explore the use of various art forms and mediums for creative expression.

Completion of this course does not certify or accreditate an individual to be an Art Therapist or Practitioner.


Our Trainers

 

Paul Lee

Mr Lee Thiam Seng (Paul) is a Singaporean artist, art therapist and consultant. He founded UniqArts and Technologies in 1995 with a passion for art, creativity and wellness. Mr Lee holds a Master of Arts in Art Therapy from LaSalle College of the Arts, a Business Management Degree from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia and a Certificate in Art from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). Mr Lee's research thesis, titled "Art Therapy as a Modality of Healing in Stages - For Women with Breast Cancer" was approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB).

Mr Lee is registered with Ministry of Education (MOE) under the Arts and Music Instructors Scheme (AIMS). He is currently teaching at Brahm Centre. Mr Lee had previously taught at the People Association (PA), United World College of South East Asian (UWCSEA - International School)  and at Anglo Chinese School (Independent).

Over the years, Mr Lee conducted individual and group art therapy treatments for clients at the Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN), as well as patients at the KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH) and Changi General Hospital (CGH). He has also conducted numerous art and creativity workshops for corporations, schools and community groups.

CLE Office is located at NAFA Campus 1, Tower Block (Level 9).

We are open from Monday to Friday (excluding Public Holidays).

Operating hours:
9.30am - 12.30pm; 2.00pm - 5.00pm.
