Certificate in Watercolour Painting (Advanced)

This course equips learners with advanced knowledge and skills in watercolour painting. Learners will study techniques and methods in watercolour while developing their style of painting. This course focuses on still life and landscape painting for the application of skills acquired in different genres. This course is recommended for learners who have successfully completed Certificate in Watercolour Painting (Intermediate).

Course Prerequisite
For learners who have successfully completed Certificate in Watercolour Painting (Intermediate).

This course is offered by invitation only. New applicants may contact CLE at [email protected] to apply for exemption. The cost of each exemption application is S$109 (non-refundable).

Module 1 - Watercolour (Observation and Interpretation)
(8 sessions x 3 hours)
This module aims to enhance learners’ ability to observe and paint from still life or landscapes. In addition to gathering reference materials and transforming photos into paintings, learners will be taught various techniques and methods, such as washes, dry brush and lifting, to create a vibrant and unique interpretation of a picture.

Module 2 - Watercolour (Imagination and Interpretation)
(8 sessions x 3 hours)
This module aims to enhance learners’ ability to identify and analyse the characteristics of watercolour painting. This module emphasises the importance of studying elements in watercolour and the insertion of other mediums to bring out the subject and atmosphere of paintings. Through analysing the elements and studying intention and interpretation, learners will successfully create works that deliver strong qualities.

Our Trainers

 

Alan Huang Han Hui

Alan Huang is an experience Art Practitioner specialising in mixed mediums, particularly watercolour. He holds a Graphic Design Diploma from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) since 1998 and a Fashion Design Diploma with Distinction from LASALLE College of the Arts (LASALLE) in 2004. Alan began part-time teaching in 1994, eventually pursuing a full-time art teaching career in 2005. He is currently sharing his expertise as a faculty member of Centre for Lifelong Education (CLE) at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. Throughout his career, Alan has received numerous awards for his artistic projects, both locally and internationally. He has been invited to showcase his talents as a guest artist on popular local and Asian variety shows such as Channel 8 and Channel U. Alan has also actively participated in major national and international events, demonstrating his versatility and excellence in Fine arts, Graphic design, Fashion design, and Makeup Artistry.



Ho Enwei Edwin

Edwin Ho is an educator, a practising artist and painter who holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction Degree (University of New South Wales, Australia). Edwin has lectured at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts for the past decade, and is also an instructor at the Singapore prisons, incorporating much of his artistic practices in mentoring the inmates. Edwin has a strong passion for the visual arts, and has impacted and inspired many of his students.

 

 


Jalon Tan

Jalon Tan is a Visual Artist from Singapore whose flair for the arts sparked a series of works that reflect fondly on his childhood, where he developed an uninhibited affinity with animals along with the ones he grew up with.


Jalon self-funded his first solo exhibition in 2015. The body of work paid tribute and revealed the enigmatic personality of cats.


Jalon began teaching the craft of traditional drawing and painting from an art studio he founded in 2016. The art programmes crafted were inspired by his own experience as well as influences, which include his background in Chinese Ink Painting.


What started as ad-hoc, one-off workshops have now triumphed into a variety of programmes catering not only to recreational participants but also those who wish to adopt a more comprehensive approach to the craft. 


Jalon also experiments with unconventional mediums, producing conceptual pieces to installation art like the ones exhibited at the PAWsitive Exhibition (2017) for Wellness Pet Food,as well as his sculptural work commissioned for ASUS’s product launch exhibition, COLLISION: “Unleash Your Creative Power” (2018). He is no stranger when it comes to conveying messages that seek to ensnare the senses.



Terence Tan Chee Wah

Terence Tan is a local artist specialising in contemporary ink painting.

He has over 25 years of art teaching experience with various educational establishments.

Terence obtained his Diploma in Fine Art from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1990 and a Bachelor of Art (Design) with a major in Multimedia from Curtin University of Technology in 1997. He pursued his Master in Electronic Arts from Middlesex University in 2004. He learnt his art in Chinese ink painting from Singapore painter Tan Oe Pang.

He is also a multiple painting awards winner, participating in various competitions in Singapore and other countries. He has exhibited his works in art events such as Art Stage and Affordable Art Fair, as well as local and overseas galleries.
