Our Trainers

Nhawfal Juma’at

Nhawfal makes conceptual artworks, including paintings, photos and drawings. His works directly respond to the surrounding environment and use everyday experiences from the artist as a starting point. Often these are framed instances that would go unnoticed in their original context.

With an attitude of a bricoleur, Nhawfal acknowledges the potentiality of space qua-object and expands it. The abstract visual language of his aesthetics uses shape, form, colour and lines to create a composition that may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in this world.

Nhawfal has exhibited extensively in Singapore. In conjunction with 2018’s Singapore Art Week, he was part of a group of young artists that exhibited in RAID, held at Tiong Bahru’s Air Raid Shelter. Nhawfal was also the artist and co-curator for The Lucky Show (2018) and RUANG (2017), held at temporal spaces in Singapore. In 2017, he exhibited in South Korea as part of the 10th Asian Students Young Artist Arts Festival and A Surreal Vision at Millepiani, Rome, represented by Loosen Art.

Lee Shen Lung

Shen Lung holds a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois (USA) and a Bachelor of Science in Ceramics from University of Evansville, Indiana (USA).

Shen Lung is currently a full-time ceramics artist at Jalan Bahar Clay Studios and teaches ceramics as an adjunct lecturer at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. Previously, she taught ‘Introduction to Arts’ and ‘Beginning Ceramics – Handbuilding’ at Southern Illinois University.

In 2000, Shen held her first solo exhibition at the University Museum in Carbondale, Illinois. She has also showcased her works in several exhibitions in the USA and Singapore, the most recent one being the Singapore Clay Festival in 2021.

Chang Shun Yee

Chang Shun Yee graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) with a Diploma in Fine Arts (major in ceramics) in 2013. She has a keen interest in sharing her knowledge and skills of ceramics-making with the public.

Shun Yee has been actively conducting workshops at government schools, private studios, dragon kilns, and NAFA for the past 10 years. Her audiences range from lower primary students to senior citizens. She is well-versed in clay-making techniques such as handbuilding, throwing and slip casting, and often explores new and creative ways of creating ceramics.
