“NAFA was where my dance story began, shaping not just my moves but my very essence. It isn’t just an institution; it is the cradle of my artistic awakening. I am grateful for its role in moulding me into the dancer and individual I've become.”

Ricky Sim, a prominent figure in contemporary dance circles, brings a delightful mix of artistic finesse and curious exploration to his role as Founder and Artistic Director of RAW Moves. With over three decades of experience, Sim's journey in dance is marked by a deep dive into movement and its cultural significance.

While his formal training spans classical ballet, contemporary dance, somatic practices, and visual design, Sim's choreography bears the imprint of various influences, subtly woven into the fabric of his creative expression. This transdisciplinary approach infuses his work with a rich understanding of human culture and societal dynamics, breaking free from conventional boundaries.

At the core of Sim's artistic ethos lies his passion for transcendental aesthetics, a principle that blurs the lines between art and philosophy. Through his movement-centric approach, he delves into the emotional and conceptual realms of dance, inviting audiences to ponder the beauty and meaning intricately threaded into everyday life.

Beyond his creative endeavours, Sim actively engages in international forums and institutions as a speaker and guest lecturer. There, he shares insights into the intersection of dance techniques and research practices. His dedication to propelling contemporary dance forward and fostering dialogue within the creative industry underscores his leadership in the field.

Ultimately, Sim's journey is a testament to the power of art in unravelling the complexities of human existence. With his diverse approach and steadfast enthusiasm, he not only captivates audiences but also inspires fellow artists, paving the way for fresh perspectives and creative discoveries.

Ricky has curated interdisciplinary works for RAW Moves, collaborating with artists globally. His honours include the NAFA Distinguished Alumni Award, Djerassi Residency (USA), UNESCO-Aschberg Bursary (France/Greece), and NAC grants (Singapore). He has also choreographed for the Napoli Teatro Festival, Teatro alla Scala (Italy), and Singapore’s National Day Parade.
