Recipient of several Crowbar Awards, including the ‘Best of Advertising’ in 2007, Yix has a range of experience working as Copywriter, Interactive Copywriter, and Art Director with advertising agencies, notably at Ogilvy Advertising and TBWA Singapore.
Yix has an accomplished list of publications; most significantly, a story book for children, titled 'The Book That Was Handed Down' under the 'First Time Writer & Illustrator' publishing initiative by the Media Development Authority of Singapore and the Singapore Book Council. This book won the inaugural Hedwig Anuar Children's Book Award for Outstanding Children's Book in 2011. Her second children's picture book 'Happily Ever After is so Once Upon A Time' was featured at the Singapore Writers Festival in 2012 under the National Art Council 'Beyond Words: Young & Younger' initiative. It is translated and sold in Korea and available as an interactive app.
Ever-willing to experiment with new mediums and take up new challenges, Yix initiated the first-ever photography project to document all the secondary school uniforms in Singapore as a tribute to the nation during her 50th birthday. ‘My School Uniform’ was awarded a S$42,000 grant by the National Heritage Board in 2013 and published by Basheer Graphic Books in 2016. Covering 627 students from 142 schools within two years, this was her longest project yet and a test of her commitment, teamwork, and perseverance. ‘My School Uniform’ was featured on Channel News Asia, TODAY newspaper, 联合早报, and JIA88.3FM.
These books are windows into Yix’s fascination with how words and pictures combine to tell a story through the various mediums, be it advertisements, design, film, picture books, web, apps, and social media.
Yix was named one of ‘55 Most Inspiring Millennials’ in Her World, the No. 1 woman’s magazine in Singapore, on a special 55th anniversary edition in 2015.
