Matthias Oestringer

Matthias Oestringer is an accomplished violinist and violist, as well as an experienced educator, who has worked across Europe and is currently based in Singapore.

He has given many concerts and solo recitals in Poland, France, Germany, Switzerland and Turkey. He has also participated regularly at “Tage für Neue Musik” (a festival for contemporary music) in Darmstadt where he was active in performing and premiering music.

In 1991, Matthias won the first prize in a German National Youth Music Competition.  He led the orchestra as concertmaster in the Academies Symphony Orchestra and was the featured soloist in the final concert for a series of commemorative concerts organized in Frankfurt/Main, Germany in 1999, to celebrate Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s 250th birthday. Matthias’ teaching career started in 1993. After graduating in February 2000, he taught both violin and viola at the Emmerich-Smola-Musikschule Kaiserslautern, Germany.

From 2001 to 2002, Matthias was invited to play as a violist with the “Ensemble Carolina”, performing Mozart’s piano quartets in several concert halls in Germany. The composer, Gordon Kampe, wrote the piece “Écharde” for solo violin for Matthias, which he premiered during his graduation concert recital in 2000. He was often accompanied by his wife, Singaporean pianist Janet Tay.

He continued to teach actively after settling down in Singapore in 2002. Several of his students were invited to play at high scorers’ concerts organized by ABRSM Singapore. In 2006, Matthias was awarded the Cristofori Teacher Award for his dedicated and successful teaching. In 2013, he joined the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts as a lecturer for Principal Studies (Violin).

Presently, Matthias continues to perform as a Soloist, Chamber Musician and Orchestra Musician.
