Born in Singapore, Meng-Chia Eng studied at the Royal College of Music in London, where he obtained the ARCM Diploma and the Postgraduate Certificate for solo singing. He continued his training in the opera school at the Hochschule für Musik in München under a DAAD scholarship and simultaneously worked with distinguished teachers Arrigo Pola and Carlo Bergonzi in Italy.
Meng-Chia Eng has made regular appearances in operas and concerts, with such groups as the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and Singapore Lyric Opera, and performed on radio and television in Singapore. He has participated in several tours in Canada, the USA and the Seoul International Music Festival in Korea. Further engagements have taken him to Lisabon, Brussels, Italy, Budapest, Taipei, Malaysia and Germany.
From 1999 to 2002, he was the Artistic Director of Musica Cantabile and Music Director of The International Festival Chorus, as well as a voice trainer and conductor for many schools and junior college choirs and a singing teacher for the Lasalle College of the Arts in Singapore. He had been invited to adjudicate singing competitions in Malaysia in 1999 and 2000. Besides being a soloist, he is also a member of the renowned Bayreuth Festival Chorus and the Concert Chorus of the Bavarian Radio Choir.
From November to December 2006, Meng-Chia Eng has put up successful concert tours in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, singing in Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and Mass in C Minor. He has also successfully sung Schubert’s song cycle Die Winterreise in Taipei and Kaohsiung.
