Thomas Yeo, Turquoise Pool, 2016, acrylic on canvas, 80 x 120 cm
Born in Singapore in 1936, NAFA’s first Distinguished Alumni Medallist and 1984 Cultural Medallion Award recipient Thomas Yeo, is recognised for his abstract, collage (mixed media) and gouache landscapes inspired by his sojourns around Asia. Yeo’s body of works has influenced the development of modern art in Singapore since the 1960s.
This exhibition of around 60 works will feature his recent gouache landscapes as well as present two periods of his abstract works. Now consists of a culmination of works completed in the last decade. Then highlights Yeo’s early foray into modern art with works executed between the 1960s and 1990s. This exhibition serves to draw a comparison between the two periods and uncover parallels between his distinctive styles over the past five decades.
