Brian (Keng-Lun) Hsu made his concerto debut at the age of 16 with the Philadelphia Orchestra. He has since gone on to establish himself as a pianist of great energy and unusual communicative ability. Critics have described his performances in superlatives, noting his “breadth of expression and technical ability”. Hsu received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from The Juilliard School, an Artist Diploma from Yale University, and Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Michigan.
Hsu has won awards in numerous competitions, both in the United States and Asia, including the Wideman Piano Competition and National Piano Competition in Taiwan. In addition to his competition successes, Hsu was the recipient of numerous awards while attending Juilliard, Yale and Michigan. As an experienced performer, Hsu has performed throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and South Africa. He has appeared as a concerto soloist with ensembles such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, Juilliard Orchestra, and Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also been a guest on WQXR 105.9 FM Radio Station in New York several times.
In 2011, Hsu participated in the world premiere of Paul Schoenfield’s Piano Quintet with members of the Pro Arte Quartet and recorded for Albany Records, released in the spring of 2014. His U.S. debut solo recording, Night at the Opera: Part I was released in the fall of 2018. He has given numerous performances and masterclasses at colleges and universities throughout the United States and Asia and has collaborated with various artists and faculty.
Currently Associate Professor and Keyboard Department Coordinator at Loyola University New Orleans, Hsu will present a solo recital of Franz Liszt's Anneés de pèlerinage: Italie as Artist-in-Residence at the NAFA School of Music.
