The biennial National Piano & Violin Competition results saw 25 young musicians winning awards.
15-year-old Wang Huang Hao Jia won the first prize in the Intermediate category for Piano. He thanked his teacher Mdm Fang Yuan for her guidance and encouragement, his parents and friends, and said that the competition provided him a good and enriching experience. He also said that he intends to make music his career in future.
Yap Sheng Hwa, 11, won the first prize in the Junior category for Piano. This is his maiden win. He had previously took part in previous editions of the same competition, but was eliminated in the early stages. This time, his efforts paid off. Yap enrolled at NAFA School of Young Talents when he was 7, and although young, he said he is very serious about music and hopes to perform in future.
Acting Minister for Education (Schools) & Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Transport Ng Chee Meng was the Guest-of-Honour.
