Pipa player Chen Xin Yu
A feature on four rising stars in the performing arts scene who are looking forward to new achievements in 2017. One of those featured was 12-year-old pipa player Chen Xin Yu, who won first place in the Pipa Open Category at the National Chinese Music Competition last year. Xin Yu entered the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts School of Young Talents at the age of 6, where she studied with pipa performer and educator Liu Yan. At the age of 9, she became one of the youngest members of the Singapore Youth Chinese Orchestra. Following her recent win, Xin Yu was invited by the Hong Kong Wuji Ensemble to perform in Hong Kong in June this year.
